Anyone who knows me, even not very well – usually knows that I have a thing for the sweet stuff. Oh yes, by that I mean candy, and well – desserts too. I’ve never met a cupcake or cookie I didn’t love and want to take home!
In fact when my husband and I got married, 5 years ago, we had a fun after party in our backyard and the thing I most enjoyed planning for? Well I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, the candy and desserts table. Imagine dozens of mini cupcakes baked with the assistance of my very loving and understanding family (including a brother-in-law who turned out to have more culinary skills than I would have guessed), enough burgundy m&m’s to feed a small village and some beautiful flowers from the reception.
Cue 2010, and we have candy buffet legends like Amy Atlas to create wondrous cupcake and candy spreads that would make even the most die hard sugar junkie swoon. I’ve included a couple images from her site below here.
While I know most of us don’t have the time to create a spread like Amy Atlas does, I think fun cupcake toppers and bright candies displayed in unique ways can make a summer soiree all the more fun.
For anyone planning a kids party or other special event you can also search The Best of Handmade and find lots of fun printable items to brighten up any party. I found myself getting lost in Dimpleprints Etsy shop (pictured below), which features a great range of printable party decor! I know that as I get older (and wiser) I’m careful how much I take on when it comes to planning get-togethers, so it’s nice to know these kits are available to make decorating that much easier.
