Aisles and aisles of tiny boxes

What’s better than an aimless trip to the hardware store, finding all the weird and beautiful hardware? This is.

Simply Wearable Repurposed Hardware by Additions.

I am a jewelry artist who works with sterling silver, and a mother of a teenage daughter who loves jewelry. I decided to create a collection that she and her friends can afford and still wear designer jewelry that shows off their personal style.

Working with my daughter we started our collection which we named ADDITIONS. The jewelry is designed for the person who loves to wear silver jewelry but can’t afford the cost. All of our pieces are made from things found in the hardware store, and I try to figure out new ways to take these items and create fun and funky jewelry for under $25.

And I love how these are for young people, but they're not "cutesy" — well done!

These photos are going up on Pinterest and being marked as “DIY” projects. Perhaps you could watermark the photos to help prevent intellectual theft?

I’m doing a mini-workshop at our middle school in late November and am looking for something that would be inexpensive to make per student, as well as be something that both boys and girls would like.

I am really interested in the piece pictured above, but am wondering how to do this, how much it would take per student to make, and if a student could make this in about 25 minutes (it’s a 30 minute workshop, so I have five minutes to instruct and they have 25 minutes to construct).

If you would be willing to share this or any other idea that would be good for this, I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks!

Hi Erika,

I love your washer idea, and your piece is absolutely clever and beautiful. My only question, is how did you make the hole in the top? Knowing that the washer is quite thick, did you use a drill press?

Aloha, Winnie
