One year and one month ago today (yes, I’m a little late with this post!) I decided to take my love of handmade public in a big way. I blogged about a handmade seatbelt purse and have never looked back.
Along the way I’ve been joined by a wonderful panel of columnists (with a new one coming soon!) who have helped bring more depth and breadth to the topics covered.
And most importantly: you. We’ve gone from zero to over 20,000 readers per month in just a year. While to a lot of sites, those numbers seem tiny, to me they’re HUGE. It means that we’re making progress in getting the word out about handmade as a thoughtful and important alternative to mass-produced junk. We’re being successful in telling people that they can have a more connected and intimate life if they just interact with the people around them.
Without you, our fabulous readers, we would just be a bunch of fanatics raving alone, so thank you for coming along for the ride!

You do a fantastic job. Thanks to you, we’ve gotten lots of ideas for our Celebrate Green site, blog, newsletters etc. One of our goals is to spread the news about handmade too, especially artists and crafters working with eco-friendly and/or recycled things. When I see something on Try Handmade that I think would work for us, but it’s not eco-friendly or made from recycled items, I often will contact the artisan and ask if they have considered making some things in an eco-friendly way. It’s interesting how often they tell me they’ve been thinking about it or are about to do it. This is a way for me to encourage artisans in that direction who are already doing amazing work.
Thanks!
Happy Birthday! Luv this blog and all that is has to offer. Beautiful photos and very interesting interviews. Love the new Gallery! Great Job Erika!
