My step-sister, Kate, is back in Pennsylvania this week for some visiting before she starts graduate school in the fall. She might be in between “homes” right now – aren’t all students? But she’s called Maine home for the last 5 years. So in honor of her and her own fabulous creativity, “Shop Local” is coming at you from the land of moose, snow, and trees!
Anabelfuzz creates delightful children’s bonnets, clothing, and accessories. They are quite obviously inspired by the climate of Maine. Some bonnets are lined with soft and warm cotton sherpa. Others are meant to keep ears warm on cool spring mornings. There are also apparel items with a distinctly New England shore feel.
On the Round is a shop full of hand-dyed, hand-spun yarn, hand-felted accessories, and hand-knit fashion. Rachel Jones, the proprietress, creates these bangles from ultra soft merino wool.
Is this the cutest bookbag you’ve ever seen or what? Oh wait! It’s a shoulder bag, too! Mims of Portland, Maine created this unique design that allows the wearer to choose to wear the bag as a back pack or as shoulder bag. This would be a perfect gift for a new mom, graduate student, or casual career woman. The shop is filled with many other great designs, as well.
Brook There creates fashion with a cause, using organic & sustainable materials whenever possible. Her designs are simple & comfortable – a growing trend in handmade fashion. There’s a sample sale going on right now so it would be a great time to try a new style or fabric on for size!
