Megan Nolton, of Art Shark Designs, created this awesome print representing her hometown – but her shop also includes many prints representing other cities, including Philly, Venice, and Portland. Trained in graphic design, Megan also fancies printmaking and painting. Her “city love” prints are created using a Gocco printer and the red umbrellas are delicately added with watercolor.
Hands down, this has got to be one of the most clever pieces of jewelry I’ve ever seen. This “Weeee!” Zipline Pendant by Nina Jackson, of Beads in the Belfry, is crafted from sterling silver and celebrates the day Nina and her son discovered a zipline at the local playground! Her shop includes many other clever jewelry pieces, including nail head earrings and a “flower vase in a window” pendant.
Dotty, from DotDotStitch and Dottyral, has a new line of hand embroidered, flexible cuff bracelets. This faux bois – wood grain – version is exceptionally cute!
Crewelwhorled is filled with tiny hand embroidered pieces of jewelry. The pendant above is stitched on turquoise silk dupioni, signed & dated. It also comes with a frame (!) so that you can display it when you’re not wearing it. The proprietress of Crewelwhorled says, “I think of my pins as little totems of time: a reminder that slowing down to create beauty has always fed our souls.”
If you’re looking for a bit of live craft in the capital city, check out Crafty Bastards in October. It’s in its sixth year, hosted by the City Paper, and is a showcase of the best of the best DC crafters. They’re accepting vendor applications now!
