Strange Overtones brought me back and forth

Submitted by Erika Jurney on Monday, 4 August 20082 Comments

I've been teleported to a time when I lived in Los Angeles in the early 90s. I would drive downtown at night and watch the skyscrapers flit through the sunroof while listening to Brian Eno, John Cale, and David Byrne.

It was a distinctly disconnected yet serendipitous time in my life which can be replayed instantly in my head by hearing my soundtrack of those days.

Subtracting the several poor love-life choices I made, the time I lived in LA was, in the golden light of retrospection, inspiring and empowering, but in reality was something less.

However, that time is over and the memories are what remain, so who's to say it is necessarily a bad thing that I've layered on and overwritten them with the way I wanted it to be?

I can hardly believe it, but Byrne and Eno have collaborated again and from the sample track it is going to be luscious and rich. "Strange Overtones" transported me back 15 years. What a gift.
