Ceramic Function By Chrys: This porcelian cup was thrown on my potters wheel and then adorned with feet and tiny nubbies!! Organic and ergonomic the cup is comfortable to hold as it fits in the hand like a glove. The tiny nubbies make it fun to fondle too!
The spectrum of color is amazing from deep lavender purples to several shades of blue! The inside is lined in a soft pink that complements the lavenders perfectly.
SheaClay high fired stoneware pottery includes dinnerware, bowls, platters, mugs, decorative ware and more- thrown and altered, stamped, carved and finished with lead free glazes, suitable for oven, dishwasher and microwave.
I strive to create joy in the simplest thing, like really good coffee in a really great cup. It’s that warm moment of appreciation, like when you are struck by the beauty of your surroundings, or when you receive kindness from a stranger, that I try to capture in my work. My pursuits include a balanced overall form with a sense of movement.
I try to create lots of edges and hard lines through carving, stamping, throwing marks- many places for glaze to break, change direction and create more color. I like warm, muted tones that provide a natural background for food and celebration, a form which invites you to pick it up and use it, and good function for service, which enhances the beauty of the form and realizes my initial goal for creating it.
One of my passions is vintage. I try to watch the trends in vintage fashion closely because it often tells you what will be popular at retail several seasons later. Two springs ago I started seeing 1980’s Laura Ashley drop waist floral dresses going for really insane prices. All of a sudden it was tough to find them in the usual places and they were being tagged with things like punk and goth. As it often does this street trend trickled up into the designer collections and has been strong for both spring and Fall 2009/Winter 2010. Style blogs like Stylescout and Streetpeeper have showed both vintage and current takes on the trend. Searching Etsy for floralfabrics and themes I found lots of beautiful things but decided to focus on accessories, a beautiful way to update or showcase your fashion floral trend.

I had a chance to do some window shopping over the weekend and every store I passed seemed to feature something made of lace. From accessories to dresses to shirts, this feminine fabric has made a big comeback for the fall fashion season and is surely meant to be styled with lots and lots of layers. Leggings, tights, boots, leather jackets and cardigans will all help this light weight fabric transition into the cooler fall and winter weather with style.
This elegant lace mini dress by elbling features beautiful layered, floaty sleeves and a lovely scoop neck. The short length makes it perfect for a night out and would be especially cute paired with opaque tights and boots for the fall season. The wide cinched waist will flatter most body types and the peachy, almost nude color of the the lace is both classic and timeless.
This light pink lace dress by iroshka has a lovely vintage feel to it, with a loose fit throughout the body, sheer ruffled organza bottom and light pink details. It includes a light pink polyester lining and a sweet keyhole back, accented with three pink pearl beads. This dress would be just perfect for a romantic dinner or holiday cocktail party.
Lace doesn’t always have to be fancy. In fact, I adore the casual look of this lace-accented dress by Jennifer Lilly Designs. The white scoop neck top features a strip of lovely vintage lace down the middle and three mismatched buttons, giving it a sweet and decidedly feminine feel. For the skirt, the buyer can choose between three vintage fabric choices, including a brown and orange floral pattern, brown and cream floral pattern, and a light blue and pink floral pattern. This dress is just asking to be paired with a worn in pair of boots!
Another great week of your interesting observations :)
On Interview with Annie Mohaupt of Mohop:
“Now that’s something not many people make. Very clever the way you can change the show to any color by changing ribbons. I wish they’d make Birkenstocks that way.” – Judy
On Tell me something good:
“That is a great idea and a great way to help others too! Pretty much everybody would love their favorite memory turned into a totally functional item that they see every day. I am digging through my closet right away!” – Katie
