Modica Design: Inspired by an unlikely marriage of materials, I made my first line of resin-infused wood jewelry in 2002. At that time, I majored in furniture design, while also exploring metalsmithing. Both disciplines share many processes; cutting, filing, sanding, polishing, etc. However, the scale of the finished product is dramatically different.
The intimate scale of metalsmithing held a distinctive allure and I found myself incorporating materials I knew and loved from furniture into my jewelry. Wood, providing warmth and texture. Resin, providing light and color. Together they create a unique dialog between contrasting worlds. Natural meets man-made. Opaque houses translucent. Warm collides with cool. The union of materials along with my commitment to high-quality, handcrafted jewelry is what gives this line a fresh, contemporary elegance.
This post, like my last, focuses on the work of a single artist. Sometimes, the work of an artist catches my eye and one photo or little snippet of their work isn’t enough to do their beautiful work justice. So this week, I bring to you: Elegance Farm Homestead.
Elegance Farm Homestead creates beautiful, one of a kind, handmade magnetic memo boards. From Caldwell, New Jersey, artists Jane and John design their sophisticated bulletin boards for just about any room in your home. Use them in your nursery, dorm room, office, or even for special occasions such as a bridal shower or wedding reception for display menus, photographs, seating cards, and so on!
The artists at Elegance Farm Homestead take inspiration from the simple, crisp cottage style and currently reside in a turn-of-the-century colonial farmhouse. Their appreciation of the simple, elegance of this style is clearly seen in each piece of their work. The small details in the frames and accessories make a huge statement.
They offer a wide range of fabric options for your custom designed piece. The fabrics you can choose from are bold, graphic, and simply beautiful. The wooden frames are handmade as well. Jane and John use their own, original designs to stand apart from the rest and have several different size options to fit in with any space and decor. Buy a few different shapes/sizes and piece them together in a unique arrangement to create a functional focal point in your room.
Add some interest to your work spaces and beyond with these one of a kind creations by Elegance Farm Homestead and stop by their shop frequently to see all of their newest work!
Hilarious but true fact: in a month you’ll be able to buy this jewelry 3 blocks from my house — small world!
Freshie and Zero: Hello. I am Beth, a.k.a. “Freshie”. I wish there was an exciting story about how I got my nickname, but there isn’t really. A few years ago, my manager at work just thought it rhymed with “Bethie” so she started calling me that and it wasn’t long before my coworkers and friends adopted my new name as well. Zero is my Jack Russell Terrier and yes, he’s totally nuts.
I strive to create jewelry that is pretty, modern, and classic. I mostly use simple geometric shapes and I constantly push myself to create new ways of making a feminine piece of jewelry out of these simple forms. Each piece is handcrafted using a hammer and wire and the end result is a mix of delicate sophistication and bold elegance, from the dainty wire outlines to the more solid silver hammered discs. Occasionally I add touches of semi-precious gemstones or pearls, and have started doing more wire wrapping lately to add to the delicate and edgy irregularity that I love.
