First off, the name of this shop, Love Monkey, makes me smile. I refer to my kids as monkeys quite often, so this just seemed like the kind of place where I ought to shop. Second off, the cute wooden toys and games they offer also make me smile. I love the Happy Gnomes. They look earnest and willing to play the role of dwarf, or even elf in a pinch, if your child’s imagination requires it. Third off, there’s much more to see as you explore this little shop: stuffed toys, baby tees and onesies, even wedding and party favor packs. All of this makes for more and more smiles.
Andrea, the owner, says in her shop profile that the idea was born out of her desire to make things for her son. As a mother of two young children myself, I can appreciate how much kids enjoy little wooden toys for make-believe play. Andrea’s toys are a great size for small hands, with bright, yet soft colors that don’t obscure the beauty of the wood grain.
She calls these little guys robots, but I’m also seeing knights, ninjas, or little guys with magic microwaves in their tummies. That last one was suggested by my six year old when she saw the picture.
And when you need a little quiet time so you can make a phone call, or finish a little work? Moms know, it’s time to break out a good game. A good game is one that the kids can play themselves without adult help, and that, afterwards, you can scoop into a handy drawstring pouch and store away until the next time you need a moment. Enter the Home Is Where The Heart Is Memory Game, a classic game with a sweet motif. Gotta love it!
