Hi I’m Vanessa and I run inkblok from my sunny (sometimes), Brighton studio on the south coast of England.
My background is in Art, Architecture and 3D Design although I have been creating and drawing since I was a very little girl!
I love detailed drawing, pattern and typography and I hope for inkblok to become my main creative outlet for my illustrative prints and stationery.
Amber Alexander, whose work reminds me of a modern day Beatrix Potter, is an artist to watch. This Vermont based artist creates interesting characters with her paints and brushes. Her watercolor and acrylic work is stunning!
It’s rare to find art that can find a home on any wall. That is another great aspect of Amber’s work. You could hang any of her paintings in any room of your home and it would simply ‘fit it’.
You will find affordable prints, originals and even some cards featuring Amber’s artwork in her shop. There is a lot to choose from that will make your collection all the more special. Enjoy!
Delicate flowers may wish to avert their eyes, but the rest of you must bravely soldier on and see the great work in daspetey’s shop.
About the Zombie series: my obsession with the walking dead seems limitless. i have written songs, animated short stories, and now made paintings and block prints of them. maybe when the zombie apocalypse happens, i will be spared by the discerning undead, and made custodian of their legacy. at the very least, i can beat the zombies back with canvases bearing their likeness. this is a 6″x6″ hand-pulled block print on textured paper. it is not a real zombie. it cannot harm you.
Words to live by. Check it out.
Do you know the way to San Jose? This week’s Shop Local post is coming at you from sunny San Jose, California.
The Sharma Designs shop is full of funky jewelry that is refined enough to go just about anywhere! She has a wide selection of painted wood earrings and earrings made from vintage lucite, as well as jewelry crafted from various other materials. While this selection could easily be distracting, the Sharma Designs aesthetic brings a great consistency to the entire shop.
This fabric tea cup, by Atelier Usagi’s Quilt, would make a whimsical touch to a mantel or coffee table. Fill it with pens or paper clips. Store sweetener packets inside and serve it with your afternoon tea.
Acrylic rings are HOT and these are some of the very best I’ve seen anywhere! PoppyJoy‘s rings are colorful – with beautiful patterns and prints. At just $3.99 a piece, you can treat yourself to a little bling without breaking the bank. Love that! Poppy also has a bulk option to purchase larger quantities of rings at a discount. They would make outrageous & affordable party favors for a bridal shower or ladies brunch.
At only 18 years old, and an Etsy member since only January, Poppy – with over 200 sales – has a promising craft career in front of her!
Amy from Bandamy Boutique creates hand-knit bags & purses. The purse pictured above is knit from a wool and alpaca blend and features an antique brass kisslock snap frame. Such a luxurious place to keep a bit of change and a lip balm!
Block prints are my favorite type of artwork to collect. My home’s living room wall is covered with a variety of block prints that I have collected over the years. It’s fun to see the differences and similarities between them. As a novice block printer myself, I know that time, thought, and talent go into every print created! Block prints are a great way to add the handmade look to your walls and are extra special as each print is a true work of art on it’s own.
While all of the art at She Rides the Lion is unique there is also a classic or vintage feel to each designs. I love the one color prints as they are bold and intricate. You will find prints and some wearable art at this shop!
The block prints at Amanda Kindregan are entirely lovable and well done. I am especially in love with the horse print. Several types of prints and paintings are available!
Melissa Kate holds the most adorable block printed art and cards! The happy colors will have you smiling all day!
Nydam Press celebrates the art of block printing with non-fussy design and interesting subject matter. This radio would look wonderful in a men’s library or study.
Last but not least, Erica Harris hold block prints that are boldly executed and a bit humorous. Don’t forget to check out the drawings and collages as well!
These are just a sampling of some of the amazing block print artists and pieces available to you. I encourage you to search around for other talents that might capture your interest as well. Maybe you’ll be inspired to start your own special collection of block prints!
